In order to pray effectively for deliverance, we must first see our areas of need. When teaching his followers how to pray, one of the things Christ stressed was our need to ask God to deliver us from evil. "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen"  Matt 6:13. Addiction is the state everyone of us can easily find themselves in,  some addictions are destructive in nature, while others are little more than a nuisance. Addictions cover many different things, here are some of the items psychologists have identified as addictions. constant need for exposure to TV and noise addiction, Alcohol Addiction, drug addiction, "substance abuse" Cigarettes, nicotine, caffeine, Sex addiction, , Internet addiction Compulsive overeating, food addiction, Bulimia, Anorexia, Self-mutilation, Hair pulling, Exercise addiction, body building addiction, anabolic steroid addiction, Gambling addiction, games addiction, Money addiction, Work addiction (workaholism), Power addiction, religion addiction, Shopping addiction, collecting addiction, Theft addiction, compulsive and impulsive lying, Violence addiction, Risk taking addiction.  Thus we can see that basically anything can become an addiction.  The addictions we should most be concerned with, are the habits and practices, which would keep us out of the kingdom of God.   True deliverance never takes place in the life of a person, without there being in them, a willingness to seek for it, pray for it, and desire it more than anything.  If we or someone we are praying for fails to prepare for deliverance, the whole process will be a waste of time. People can be dragged to the altar, but they can't be made to repent. True repentance begins with an inward desire to come out of and to walk away from the things which offend God.   Of course the problem is, that the very things we love doing are the very things which we often most need to be delivered from.  The opposite of deliverance is bondage, the root of all bondage, can be attributed, to three areas of wrongful carnal  pursuits. These three areas of wrongful pursuit are,  1. The things which look good,  2.  The things which feel good, and  3. The things which make us look good.    The main component of deliverance is tiredness, when it comes to pursuing these three items.  Until and unless we get to this point, deliverance in the critical areas will never become a reality. The prayer Christ taught us to pray "deliver us from evil"  was not a major concern of mine, until I got tired of who I was and where I was.   In this book I share how God gave me true deliverance,  (BEFORE AND AFTER SALVATION).
