HOW TO OBTAIN TRUE CONTENTMENT #2

This is by far the most difficult, of all the many books I have done.  What makes this book so difficult stems from the fact, that it calls for me to open doors in areas of my life I have never allowed full public access.  Then there are the painful memories and  issues, I have spent a lifetime trying to eradicate out of my mind.   Yet I realize that without addressing these very issues I cannot adequately address the matter of homosexuality in particular and human sexuality in general.  I never intended to or desired to tell this story with the degree and intensity I do so in this book.  But I realize that this is the only way to I can share why I can fully relate to the issues I deal with in this book.

Some who support same sex MARRIAGE SEEK TO FIND FAULT WITH THE BIBLE.   They say that the Bible CANNOT be the final authority when it comes to  the matter of  what constitutes a proper marriage.  They put forth the argument, that the Bible permitted near kin marriages, endorsed polygamy, they erroneously claim that the Bible even bans interracial marriages.  Some same sex supporters argue that this is proof that the Bible is a unreliable source when it comes to marriage. A biblical history of marriage reveals that God has allowed many variation within the marital bond down through the ages.  In the beginning God allowed near kin marriages. When God instructed Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply. The was this was accomplished was through inner sibling marriages.  The offspring of Adam and Eve (brothers and sisters) married each other.   Abraham and Sarah were had the same father but different mothers.

For a time God  permitted polygamous marriages, in fact the nation of Israel was formed through the polygamous unions of Jacob, and four women.  *(his name was later changed to Israel). The Old Testament Law commanded the Israelites not to engage in mixed marriages (Deuteronomy 7:3–4). However, the reason for this command was not skin color or ethnicity. Rather, it was religious. The reason God commanded against interracial marriage for the Jews was that people of other races were worshippers of false gods. The Israelites would be led astray from God if they intermarried with idol worshippers, pagans, or heathens.   A similar principle of spiritual purity is laid out in the New Testament, but it has nothing to do with race: “DO NOT BE YOKED TOGETHER WITH UNBELIEVERS. FOR WHAT DO RIGHTEOUSNESS AND WICKEDNESS HAVE IN COMMON? OR WHAT FELLOWSHIP CAN LIGHT HAVE WITH DARKNESS?”

God forbade the Israelites to intermarry with the Canaanites—the people of the land. (See Genesis 24:3; Exodus 34:10-17; Deuteronomy 7:3; Joshua 23:12-13; Ezra 9:2ff.) But intermarriage with all so-called foreigners was not prohibited (see Deuteronomy 21:10-13). Perhaps the strongest misconception I've found is the idea that intercultural and interracial marriage were prohibited by God for racial, ethnic, or cultural reasons. This is not the case. Some of the wisest and most honored biblical heroes and heroines (including Moses, David, Esther, Ruth, Solomon, and Joseph) were involved in intercultural or interracial marriages—marriages that God approved of and blessed. We should recall that a number of foreigners (non-Israelites, by race) were a part of the promised line of Messiah, including Tamar (Genesis 38), Rahab (Joshua 2:1ff.), and Ruth (Book of Ruth).” (2 CORINTHIANS 6:14).

Some opponents to same sex unions,  put forth the argument that none of the many variations of marriage (near kin, polygamous, intercultural and interracial, etc)  never included same sex unions.

The 70s really were in many ways disorienting and frightening. The reconfiguration of gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and class identity, all combined to create an air of uncertainty.  As I explain in this book, back in the late 60s and early 70s I had three distinct sets of friends and associates, which I classed as follows,  1. My drug friends,  2. My gay friends, and 3. My thug associates.  In the early 70s we would throw a set, a set is where a group of people would come together to get high, listen to music and talk.   As my gay, thug, and drug friends would talk, we all acknowledged that things were happening  sexually, socially, and pharmacuetically, the likes of which we had never seen before. In fact the title of a popular music album of the era, ‘What’s going on?” (By Marvin Gay), best expressed just what we were seeking to come to terms with.

For many of my generation the late 60s and early 70s had indeed been dizzying times.   Back then we had experienced radical changes, during a very radical time period in America. There were the political changes, the social upheaval,  the novelty and variety of drugs, the sexual liberation, and of course the partying.   But in the midst of the happenings of the time certain events had transpired in my life, which caused me to rethink everything that I thought I already knew.    This included my views on gay liberation, which I had been an avid supporter of up to that time.

In order to address the issue of homosexuality in particular and human sexuality in general calls for me to tell about the dark side and shadows I functioned in for a number of years. In this book I not only share the results of years of research on the subject of human sexuality, but interwoven is this book is my  personal story.   In order to address the issue of homosexuality in particular and human sexuality in general calls for me to tell about the dark side and shadows I functioned in for a number of years.

In this book I not only share the results of years of research on the subject of human sexuality, but interwoven is this book is my  personal story.     It is not my desire to hurt or embarrass any of the individuals I mention in this book.  Therefore some of the names in this book have been changed, many of them have not been changed. It is not my desire to hurt or embarrass any of the individuals I mention in this book.  Therefore some of the names in this book have been changed, many of them have not been changed.

I remember when we first began to use the term “gay” to describe our friends who lived the gay lifestyle.  To me the term “gay” seemed to be a fitting way, to show our acceptance of individuals, who had in times past been called all manner of hurtful and derogatory names. As I have often stated,  when addressing this issue, some of my best friends back in the late 60s and early 70s were gay.   These were friends that I deeply cared for.

Even since the events which occurred on May 21st 1974, which eventually led me into the ministry, I have never shied away from acknowledging this fact.  In fact it was my transvestite friends, Tarsha and Bridget who taught me how to shoot heroin.  Back then we realized that we were all taking dangerous chances with our lives, every time we mainlined heroin.  I  also realized that many of my thug associates under the right circumstances would kill just as quickly as tainted heroin or an overdose would.  Yet I had no qualms about allowing Tarsha to stick a needle into my main artery.

COMING TO TERMS WITH ONES SEXUALITY IN THE "DAZE" OF YOUTH----As I said earlier during my research on the subject of homosexuality and human sexuality,   I discovered that many today are sexually confused, when it comes to basic sexuality.  I also discovered that the group who is most being impacted by the dramatic changes taking place in our sexual landscape are our kids.  We tend to forget that much of what is being presented and acted out sexually in the public arena  is being done in front of our kids.  We as adults tend to view the ever changing sexual landscape through the eyes of adults, OUR KIDS ARE NOT ABLE TO DO THIS.    What we as adults need to remember how these sexual issues (LGBT and heterosexual) are viewed through the eyes of a child.  In order to grasp the full ramification, we as adults need to reminisce about our own childhood.  How confusing and  traumatizing it would have been for us as kids, if we were confronted with the sexual imagery, which is now being put forth before our kids.   Can you imagine how it would have been, if you were publicly exposed to such sexual imagery, as is being put forth today?
