As we know, when this nation was formed, there was an acknowledgement of God and our need for His guidance, on the part of the Founding Fathers. We note that in the language of the Declaration of Independence, there is an acknowledgement of a divine creator and the right of all human beings to have fair access to life, liberty and happiness.
Consider, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The preamble to the Constitution reflects the same ideology -We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the United States Constitution is the world’s longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words – “We The People” – affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens.
There can be no denying of the fact that when the Founding Fathers of the United States were developing the foundation on which our nation would be established, they drew inspiration from Judeo-Christian ethics and principles when establishing the guiding principles of our nation. And while it’s true that the Founding Fathers did not create a theocracy, (a system of government in which priest rule in the name of God or a god.) many of the Founding Fathers, like John Adams, expressed belief in the importance of religion and morality for a successful society.
They were careful to emphasize both religious freedom and separation of church and state. The emphasis on the separation of church and state on the part of our nation’s Founding Fathers did not hinder them from allowing themselves to be generally influenced by the Ten Commandments when developing the laws and ethical principles that would be the rule stick for centuries.

A careful reading of the Constitution will show that the founding fathers realized that NOT everyone in the nation (which was in its infancy), would embrace the godly values as outlined in the Bible. Thus, an allotment was made that insured that they would not be forced to adhere to moral values, in the name of Christianity, but the founding fathers also realized that there would be those who would seek to fully embrace the godly values as outlined in the Bible. Therefore, space was made for those who chose to respect God to be able to freely do so.
There has never been a nation formed whose foundational principles were based on the Judeo-Christian principles as outlined in the Bible. The majority of the founding fathers were acutely aware of certain guidelines of God and the character of God. Compare.
They knew that God created them, and they were accountable to Him. They were aware of the fact that God graciously sought to be in a close relationship with them, and they were aware of the basic guidelines God established for the functioning of an orderly society.
It is a reasonable assessment to say that in times past it has been the efforts on the part of many of its citizenry to actively seek to adhere to God’s most basic guidelines, in regards to moral conduct, that allowed this nation to become one of the most productive and greatest nations the world has ever seen.
As we have stated, we are seeing laws enacted that legalize the very modes of conduct that incurred the fiery wrath of God in times past, as well as the casting of His own covenant people out of the promised land.
When it comes to accepting and obeying these unrighteous laws, there is much debate among those within the various churches who seek to honor God. This situation is often called “the great moral divide”.
Some church leaders now say that we must respect the laws of the land even if we disagree with them. On the other side, there are those who say that the holy laws of God supersede the laws of man. The debate now rages even among churches of the same denomination. In fact, some church denominations are splitting up over this issue.
Some say when a nation begins to change its moral and sexual standards and sanctions unbridled sexual promiscuousness, this normally is an indication of the impending doom of that nation. Others disagree. They say the winds of change which are now reshaping our societal and sexual landscape are a positive, welcomed breeze.
In these most perilous of times, we as believers are under tremendous pressure to compromise and conform to the idealism of this world, which includes being pressured to simply shut up and go along with whatever is most politically correct. The question each of us as believers must come to terms with, is whether or not we will stand for God or bow to this worlds system - even in the face of harsh criticism.
There is a continuing debate among many within the various churches when it comes to the matter of human/civil rights versus moral wrongs. Some church leaders are now saying that when it comes to certain issues such as human sexuality, marriage, and family, that we as believers must respect the laws of the land even if we disagree with them.
There are those believers who say that the holy laws of God supersede the laws of man, others disagree. They say that we as believers have no right to expect God’s biblical guidelines to be reflected in the laws of the land.
Those who disagree with this assessment say that what many celebrate as being a modern sophisticated society's mindset of all inclusiveness, is a tragic sign that our nation has reached a level of moral deterioration, to a degree of which there is no return.
In seeking to come to grips with just exactly where we are morally, as a society, some say that we have lost our moral compass. Others argue that rather than losing our moral compass, we have purposely thrown it away.
Pastor Scott Lively explains, “Fifty years ago homosexuality was illegal throughout the entire world, except for Sweden which had decriminalized sodomy in 1938. In the space of just half a century this tiny 1-3% of the population have made themselves a global political power with greater influence in the courtrooms and legislatures of the world than the Church. This astonishing transformation surpasses that of Darwinism, Marxism, and even Islam in its speed and breadth of reach.
Many today around the world are now persuaded that the LGBT lifestyle is a human right, which must be protected, and defended by the laws of the land. Those who would dare disagree with this assessment are more and more being ostracized and viewed as being insensitive homophobic bigots.
And in some cases those who sound a dissenting voice are classed as law breakers, who must be punished under the law. To realize the true impact that the LGBTQ movement has and is having. we should consider the cost one now incurs to speak against it.
