WHEN GOD GIVES UP--PART TWO

There are several key things that Paul expound in Romans 1:1-32.  Paul tells us the reasons why God gives up, He tells us the reasons why God gives up, and Paul tells us the tragic result of this giving up nd giving over process.

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:  27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;  29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  Rom 1:21-31.

The overall theme  in this chapter is not homosexuality but the fact that God gave up on any attempt to call, chastise and correct,  these people.   He simply gave these individuals over to themselves.   As Paul tells us, #1. God also gave them up to uncleanness,   #2. God gave them up unto vile affections:  #3. God gave them over to a reprobate mind,   Rom 1:21-31.    The word in Greek is paredoken. The King James translates it as “God gave them up.” Barclay renders it “God abandoned them.”

J. B. Phillips says, “They gave up God. So God gave them up.” It is a very strong word, meaning that act of God whereby he hands over the human race for judgment because of their sins. In this passage Paul is telling us what happens when men turn away from God. “When men lose God, they always lose themselves.” It’s as if God has said, “All right. If you want to turn away from me, I’ll let you go. I won’t try to stop you. But you’ll have to face the consequences of your own actions.”

There is good reason for us to be concerned, with the matter of God giving up on a people and giving them over to themselves.  The reason being, Paul tells us that as this world comes to an end, history will repeat itself. We are told that the same morally deteriorated conditions which were prevalent during the days of Noah and Lot, will once again become the prevailing conditions.

As we said,  In the book of Genesis we have two notable examples of God giving up on  a people and giving them over to their own wicked mind set.  We should pay close attention to these two events, because Christ tells us that history will repeat itself.  According to Christ most people won’t realize that God has given them over to themselves, and judgment is about to fall.   Christ tells us for most people the last day will simply seem to be just another day, where it’s business as usual.   26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.  27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Lk 17::26-28.

Jesus describes what the days will be like leading up to the coming of the Son of man. He compares the coming of the Son of man to the flood in Noah's day (v. 27) and to the destruction of Sodom by fire and brimstone (v. 29).  Christ  tells us that the days before  His coming will be like the days before those two catastrophes, namely, full of busy, ordinary life. Verse 27: "They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built.“

Dr. Ray Pritchard tells us in both the case of  Noah and Lot,  it  was business as usual up until the last moment before their destruction.   They were eating and drinking (nothing wrong with that), marrying and giving in marriage (nothing wrong with that). They were buying and selling and continuing in all the usual activities of human life. Children went to school each day, businessmen made deals, teachers taught, doctors dispensed healing, farmers tended their crops.

One translation of verse 39 says “they did not know.” What a damning indictment.  Theirs was an age of enlightenment. But they did not know. It was an age of great progress. But they did not know. It was an age of music, fine arts and literature. But they did not know.  It was an age of military might. But they did not know. It was an age when mighty men roamed the earth. But they did not know. They knew so much but understood so little.

They knew more and more about less and less until they knew everything about nothing and nothing about what really mattered. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. They had no time for God until it was too late.”   In the case of Noah  they paid no attention to “crazy Noah” and the big boat he was building in his backyard. Maybe he was regarded as a local whacko whose oddities were tolerated and made the butt of cocktail-hour humor.  Even when Lot sought to warn his family, most of them took it as a joke.  If we are to be survivors in these last times we must take God’s warnings seriously.

Thousands of years ago it was prophesied that the moral conditions would deteriorate to the point, that our societal conditions would become “perilous. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” 2nd Tim 3:1-2. T

We are witnessing first hand, what happens when God gives up on men, and gives them over to themselves.  Ray Pritchard tells us that, Romans 1 is the story of our country, our city, our town, our street and our neighborhood. It is also the story of a culture on the skids. The great tragedy is that we can’t seem to find a stopping place nowadays. No one seems to be able to stand up and say, “This far and no farther.” There seems to be no limit on sensuality, no limit on immorality, no limit on pornography, no limit to the degree of perversion, no limit on any of the sins mentioned in this passage. Each year we push the line a little farther.

Before our very eyes, we are seeing,  everything God established in the beginning, being dismantled.  Satan is leading men, women, and young people to more and more rebellion. When God gives up on  men,  He gives them over to their own carnal thoughts and understanding, this in turn leads to  a great blindness on the part of those who reject God’s truths.  The blindness we speak of,  is not one where men can’t see their sinful conduct.  The problem is not that they can’t see the sin, the problem is, they can’t see anything wrong with their sinful conduct, nor do they see any coming  repercussions (punishment) for their sins.

When it comes to the truths Paul outlined in Romans 1:1-32 Most churches are ill prepared to  teach and stand on these truths.  Paul taught that when a person (not just a gay person but any person), continually hardens their heart to the voice of God, there comes a time when God will give up on calling that, and give them over to themselves.

Some are offended by the things Paul taught in Romans 1:1-32, especially when it comes to the matter of God giving up on a person.  The reason being they have misled by themselves or someone else into believing that God never gives up on a person, till their last breath.  Others believers will take offense because they have been taught, once you get saved, you are always saved.  They believe that even if they turn away from God, (after salvation) and continually live in sin, God never gives up  trying to get them to come back.

Paul did not tell the early believers that once they were saved, their journey toward the eternal promises of God was then set on auto pilot.  It was Paul who set forth the wilderness analogy to show how many whom God delivered out of Egypt, never made it into the promised land.   As Paul explains,     14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?  18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?  19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.   Heb 3:14-19.

The Bible gives us several well known example of God giving up on a people and giving them over to themselves.   In Romans 1:1-32,  Paul is making references to these two occasions.

GOD GAVE UP IN THE DAYS OF NOAH---

GOD GAVE UP IN THE DAYS OF LOT---

A major contributing factor was the collective mindset in which they were continually committing these sinful acts.  We also note that the Bible tells us that in both cases only a few were saved from the flood and the fire.

The people of Noah’s and Lot’s day were severely punished as a result of their sinfulness.  Something we may wonder was what was the basis for this severe punishment on the part of God.   James tells us that, To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17.   Therefore sin can only exist is the presence of knowledge, and knowledge can only be attained if it is made available.  So how could God pass judgment on them seeing what thy did not have.

The people of Noah’s and Lot’s day, had very limited knowledge, in regards to the things that pertain to godliness. Especially when we consider the  following facts.  Fact #1. they did not have a church that they could attend.  Fact #2.  They did not have a Bible in which they could read God’s guidelines.  An Fact #3.  They did not have the Ten Commandments, or any aspects of the written law, (this was long before the time of Moses).    So how could God judge them??

It’s true that th people of Noah's and Lot's day,  did not have, #1. A church that they could attend,  #2.  A Bible  to read,  or  #3.  The Ten Commandments, but Paul didn’t mention these items. In explaining why God gave up and gave these people over to themselves.   Paul noted the resources that they did have, and what they did with these resources. What they did have was #1. basic knowledge of God and his basic guidelines for a orderly society.  And   #2. they had a conscience where they could properly respond  to this basic knowledge.  Paul tells us that the resources God had placed at their disposal took away any excuse, or argument that they were innocent by way of ignorance.

Paul clearly tells us that the resources God had placed at their disposal took away any excuse, or argument that they were innocent by way of ignorance.   19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:  Rom 1:19-20.

It was because of the fact that these people refused to govern themselves accordingly, via the resources that they did have, that God gave up and gave them over to themselves.  21 Because that,  #1. when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 28 And #2. even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Rom 1:21&28.

THE GATHERING AT LOT’S DOOR--Perhaps one of the most often discussed events when it comes to Sodom and Gomorrah are the events which took place at the door of Lot’s home.  The reason being, it was right after these events, that the angels of the Lord  announced the doom of these two cities. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. Gen 19:4-5.

At first glance it may appear that the main issue here was homosexuality.  But as we said earlier, most of the inhabitants of these two cities were not gathered with the mob at Lot's door.  Yet they were going to suffer the same fate.

On the eve of the destruction of these two cities,  The scriptures gives us a 24 hour window in which to look at the happenings in Sodom, just prior to the outpouring of God’s fiery judgment.  In Sodom and Gomorrah it is evident that there was a collective coming out of the closet.  This was not a coming out of  the gay closet: In Sodom there was  a collective coming out of  the closet by the entirety of the of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah.

They all had knowledge of Gods basic guidelines, and they all had a conscience, but Paul tells us they ignored both of these resources.  Everyone was coming out and aggressively pursuing what they deemed to be most carnally beneficial and pleasurable.  As the men of the city gathered at Lot’s door, they did not know they had less than 24 hours to live.   They did not realize that not only had God given up on those of them who were gathered at Lot's door, God had given up of the whole society.

In order to understand the full scope of the judgment God was about to hand on Sodom, we will need to step away from Lot’s door and go back to the dawn of creation.   In the beginning  When God created Adam and Eve, God bestowed upon them certain resources, by which they  and their offspring would be able to function in a orderly godly manner, in their day to day life living.  Two main items that God bestowed upon Adam and Eve,  was a conscience, and knowledge of His basic guidelines for a orderly society.

We are told that in the beginning God created man and woman. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  Gen 1:27-28.

When God created Adam and Eve by divine design God created man on a level which bestowed upon him, observant and comprehension skills, which were virtually a parallel image of His (God’s) own.  God endowed Adam and Eve with,  1. Intellect, Thought, imagination, (creativity), 2. Free Choice, (the right and ability to choose),  3. Conscience, the ability to moral grasp ones conduct,  (sensitivity to the voice of God), and  4. Desire. The ability to experience a sense of longing for a person or object,  or hope for a certain  outcome. The same sense is expressed by emotions such as "craving" or "hankering".

It is the conscience that God placed in man that makes us so accountable to God --Conscience---the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, the ability to sense remorse when doing the opposite of what one knows to be right. Morally possessing a sensitivity to the voice of God.

THE CONSCIENCE Within the mind of man God designed the conscience.  It was to be the seat of man’s sense of knowing  right and wrong. It was to be the place from which we could feel guilt and express remorse.  Another way to describe the conscience, is that of it being a  thought, imagination, and conduct police.   It was the conscience that God placed in man which was to allow man to conduct himself as God would have  him to.

THE BASIC GUIDELINES---When God created Adam and Eve there were no ten commandments, no Bible,  and not even a church to attend. However God did establish certain basic guidelines for them and their offspring to abide by.  Not only this but when they strayed away from these basic guidelines, their conscience would make them aware of the fact.  there were certain basic godly truths which were passed from one generation by word of mouth He established himself as Lord and creator.  He called for obedience and trust.  He established two distinct sexes male and female. He established the institution of marriage, and family. He charged men to be both leaders *(not tyrants), and protectors of the family.  God forbade abuse and violence against the innocent.   There are several other key items that would be added to this list later on, but initially these were the most basic guidelines for humanity to follow.

This now brings us back to the front door of Lot’s house and the mob that was gathered there.   As Paul tells us, main problem was one of a totally corrupted communal mind set.  So much so that now even the unthinkable was now thinkable.

Paul also tells us that they had no excuse they had knowledge,   19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;so that they are without excuse:  Rom 1:19-20.

Not on this but God had placed in them a conscience in their mind, to alert them when they veered off the moral course.  But they push it aside.

1.They knew about the creation and the fall.  2. They knew God had established the role of the male and female, in regards to relationships and sexuality.  3. They understood the concept of marriage, and 4. commitment to ones family.  5. The men of this time frame knew that God had appointed the man to function in the leadership role, regarding family and protector.  6. They knew that God was against abuse and the violence which accompanied it.  Yet they purposely ignored these basic guidelines and their conscience.  They had continually  ignored God’s guidelines and hardened their hearts, (conscience). to the point that God knew they were no longer reachable.

Therefore God gave up  on them and gave them over to themselves.  Even those who were not gathered ay Lot’s door that fateful night, were in agreement with what was taking place their, As Paul tells us,  In fact the vast majority of the people were doing the same thing.  As Paul tells us they not only did the same things, but took pleasure in seeing others do the same. 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.  Rom 1:32

There was a collective pushing God out of the hearts and minds of the people  God saw that in their hearts they had become dead to their conscience    They had lost their ability to feel guilt remorse, and true godly sorrow.   Their conscience had become seared.  We should pay close attention to this scenario, because Paul warns that in these end times, the conscience of many will suffer the same fate, with the same tragic conclusion. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils:  Speaking lies in hypocrisy: having their conscience seared with a hot iron." (1st Timothy 4:1-3).

The circumstance that led up to the events which were taking place at Lot's door, started off as just another day in Sodom. We are told that two strangers arrived at the gates of the city, where Lot the nephew of Abraham just so happened to be sitting.   Unbeknownst to Lot these two men were really angels who had been sent by God to bring down judgment upon these two  cities. The scriptural account of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah is very telling:  “But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly” Gen 13:13. The level of wickedness got so bad that  God Himself decreed that he would send forth a special visitation of judgment.

We are told that Just before these two angels arrived at the gates of  Sodom,  they had stopped by the home of Lot’s uncle.  This was none other than Abraham  who lived a short  distance away from these two cities. The sudden appearance of three guests caught Abraham’s attention. One of them was the Lord, and the other two were angels.  It was revealed to Abraham that, they had come to scrutinize Sodom (the same city where Lot was now living).   It was during this visitation that God informed Abraham about what he was getting ready to do in Sodom and Gomorrah. “And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know” (vv. 20-21).

When Abraham realized that God was about to pass judgment on Sodom,  he was concerned for his nephew, Lot and his family. He asked God if He would spare the city for 50 righteous men.  God said he would,  Abraham Got God to go all the way down to ten.  God said if he found just ten righteous he would spare the city. (Gen. 18:23-32).  It should be noted that God said that if He found as few as ten righteous people in these two cities he would spare them.   In other words even though homosexuality, violence, murder, drunkenness, etc, was prevalent in Sodom, God said he would spare them.

This is conformation that the  determining factor, in regards to whether these people would be spared, was not if there was the absence of homosexuality.  The determining factor was if as few as ten righteous people could be found in the city. And he (God), said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.  Gen 18:20-32

God promised Abraham that if he could find ten people who gave heed to their conscience and showed respect for His basic guidelines, He would not give up on them.  God said if He could find as few as ten he would spare both cities. Arned with this knowledge of the meeting between God and Abraham,  we now know that the main issue was not homosexuality, but ten righteous people.  Thus we then see the two angels ariving in Sodom.  “And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.”

The Bible does not reveal why Lot sat in the gate of the city. Some Bible commentators believe he may have been some kind of magistrate. Nor does the Bible reveal whether Lot recognized the men as angels. In the Bible angels often appear as men. Lot surely knew the depravity of the Sodomites,  he knew they would be safe sleeping outside.   Lot knew that many of the inhabitants of the city had allowed their conscience to become so seared that any bad thing was possible, without any that of retribution.  It was at this moment that Lot knew he had a decision to make.  He could leave these two strangers out on the street and go home close his door and not get involved.  Or knowing the plight these two strangers were in, he could invite them to come under the protection of his roof. Lot knew that at the rate the debauchery level had increased in Sodom, he could be putting himself at risk.

In spite of the risk, LOT DECIDED THAT IT WAS TIME TO TAKE A STAND.  All before he had been silent, in spite of being vexed at the wickedness all around him, but on this night Lot decided to take a stand.   Therefore he urged the angels to come into his home to spend the night. “And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat” (vv. 2-3).

By ancient custom, the visitors were under Lot's protection., therefore Lot assumed that once they were in his home they would be safe for the night.   Lot was sadly mistaken, because on this night even the common decency of respecting the sanctity of the home would be ignored.  This was the night that things were going to descend to an even lower level of wickedness and perversion.  They ignored God’s  guidelines and their own conscience.    As word spread that two attractive strangers were in town,  many of the men of the city came out into the streets and marched down to Lot's house with one thing in mind.  They wanted to have sex with these two men.    4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. Gen 19:4-5.

The inhabitants of these two cities had so hardened themselves to God’s basic guidelines and heir their conscience  to the point that they had lost all shame.  They boldly came out in the streets and marched down to Lot’s house.

This is similar to the conditions that existed just before God sent His people into captivity during the days of Jeremiah. Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and look now and take note. And seek in her open squares, if you can find a man, if there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her. And although they say, ‘As the Lord lives,’ surely they swear falsely (Jeremiah 5:1, 2).

Jeremiah goes on to describe how he searched among the common people and then among the court. On that day, at least, he could find no one. The people in Judah and Jerusalem had not the slightest inclination to know the Lord and His paths. Jeremiah described their attitude this way:  To whom shall I speak and give warning that they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed and they cannot listen. Behold, the word of the Lord has become a reproach to them; they have no delight in it” (Jeremiah 6:10)Such was the case in Sodom and Gomorrah.

THE moral conditions in Sodom had deteriorated to the point that there was no shame in their game.  The older men had groomed and recruited the younger men into the fold.  In Sodom and Gomorrah,  there was a wholesale hardening of the conscience of men to the voice of God.   Someone once said, “when we ignore our conscience to do right, wrong prevails.  So was the case with Sodom it was not a gay issue it was a hardening of the societal conscience of the entire populous.

The events which were taking place at Lot’s door, made it evident that the inhabitants of these two cities, had exalted their,  their  sexuality,  lust, and sexual cravings, above God’s moral guidelines.  The Bible tells us that Lot as the only one grieved  in regards to what was taking place in these two cities. There was such a hardening of the conscience of the people of Sodom, young and old,   Even those who were not gathered at Lot’s door took delight it what was taking place. It’s not that they were not aware of God’s basic guidelines.  While it’s true that the people of Sodom had not been exposed to the law of Moses, nor did they have a Bible to guide them.  Nor did they have a church to they could attend  But they did have knowledge of God’s basic guidelines, and a conscience they could listen to if they so chose.

As Paul Explains, they were so caught up in their own selfish wicked ways,  that they took great delight in seeing those at Lot’s door doing the same.  “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”  Rom 1:32.    The outwardly aggressive acts of lust, perversion, and violence, it was all like a game to the inhabitants of Sodom.  Fools make a mockery of sin: but among the righteous there is favor. Prov 14:9.

Lot sought to reason with the mob gathered at his door, but it would be to no avail.   No amount of reasoning or pleading on the part of Lot would cause them to deviate from there goal.  In fact they were so bold as to tell Lot, that not only were they going to rape these two men, but they were going to do worse to him. now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. Gen 19:9. The problem was one of a totally corrupted mindset, so much so that  even with less than twenty four hours to live,  the violence, corruption and sexual perversion of the old and young inhabitants of Sodom grew progressively worse. They were blind to the reality that God’s judgment at arrived at the door,  in fact their destruction was just on the other side of the door they sought to break down,  LOT’S DOOR.

They were infuriated with Lot, when he sought to remind them of  their  male and female assigned roles.  Even if they were married their pursuit of their sexual cravings took precedent over their marriage vows.  The mob gathered at Lot’s door, had no respect for the sanctity of the home,  nor the family that dwelt therein.  They made this fact clear, as they  fact that they sought to break in and inflict all manner of sexual and physical violence on Lot, (and the two guest in his home). The level of unprovoked violence they sought to inflict that fateful night made it obvious, they had cast off all restraints of decency.   THEY HAD LESS THAN 24 HOURS, BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW.

God had already decreed that he would spare these two cities. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.  Gen 18:32.  But there seemingly were not even ten who would stand.   The truth of the matter is, the events which took place in Sodom could not have occurred, without a large cast of supporters. The men of the city knew they could boldly come out into the streets of Sodom and do as they pleased, without any fear of being reprimanded.

THE TRAGIC ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE ANGELS--GOD HAD GIVEN UP ON SODOM-- Lot stood in the doorway of his home trying to reason with the mob gathered at his door.  But the more he tried to reason with them on moral grounds the more enraged they became.  So much so that the mob sought to break down the door, it was at this point that the two angels intervened. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. 1 24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.  Gen 19:15-26

A question which begs to be answered is, where were the people in the city who stood for the right?   According to God’s divine count, he could not find ten.  One would think that surely the police and magistrates in Sodom would stand up and say “ENOUGH STOP!!” but there was silence.  Some may say that this could NEVER happen in our cities today.  Yet it is happening, and so is the same backlash,  Lot encountered against those who disagree with what’s going on.  Today sexual immorality today being applauded and supported, as it is being proudly paraded down the main streets of our cities.  Those of every sexual persuasion have been given full leeway to proudly come out into the streets, (both young and old).  They have no fear in what they are doing.  In fact they are able to tout their sexuality, under full protection of the law.   The same signs that God had given up on Sodom are once again present today.

This picture was taken at a Gay Pride parade in New York City.  Notice there is no concern about young kids being exposed to this.  In fact we see the police standing there, protecting their right to put on this display .  This scene would have perfectly blended in with what was taking place in the streets of Sodom  24 hours before God’s fiery judgment fell.  There is no denying that the collective moral conscience has been severely seared. The men of Sodom had no fear of the police, in fact they felt safe (even protected).  The events which took place in the streets of Sodom, mirrors what is now happening in our cities today. The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.   Isaiah 3:9. Many have lost the moral strength to take a stand against what is going on.  Many others are so griped with fear of the consequences of speaking out, that they have gone into a closet of silence.    We as believers must not hate those who live the LGBT lifestyle, but we must continually take a moral stand.  We must do so even though to do so will cause us to labeled as homophobic bigots.

But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: Gen 19:4-5.  Many of the LGBT parades, here and around the world expose kids to obscene, with hardly a wimper from the news media.   In the name of LGBT rights Grown men are allowed to fully expose themselves to our young kids.

Even though we are addressing the issue of homosexuality as a human right or a moral wrong.  The issue of the LGBT movement is not our main concern.  Just as the main issue God had with  Sodom was merely homosexuality, God took note of the rampart sin and perversion which was taking place on every level of society.  Homosexuality was NOT the true problem.  It was merely one of the symptoms,  God could not even find ten righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah.

The problem was one of a totally corrupted mindset. The scriptures gives us a 24 hour window in which to look at the happenings in Sodom, just prior to the outpouring of God’s fiery judgment.  In Sodom and Gomorra it is evident that there was a collective coming out of the closet.  This was not a coming out of  the gay closet: In Sodom there was  a collective coming out of  the closet by the entirety of the of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah.   Everyone was coming out and aggressively pursuing what they deemed to be most carnally beneficial and pleasurable.  They did so in spite of the fact that they were trampling their conscience underfoot in the process
