One of our greatest needs is to get a proper balance between our relationship with God, and our desire for the things the world he created has to offer. The main thing which makes Satan's powers of deception so great is because he knows how to tell us the lies we want to hear.   Pass any Christian bookshelf today and you will see a collection of popular books written by nationally known authors about how you can achieve success.  These books offer "secrets" on how to think and practice your faith so you can be a "winner" and reach your goals. Tune into any Christian TV channel and you may be presented with a message that challenges you to exercise your faith so as to claim health, wealth, and overall prosperity, the premise being that God always wants you healthy and wealthy, but faith is needed to make this become your reality. Our present Christian society seems to be obsessed with the belief that rightness with God should always result in material success, health, and prosperity. In fact much of the teaching today seems to imply, that if we use our faith correctly, we can overrule any of life's situations we deem to be unacceptable.  William R. Cunningham tells us,  "Be honest and consider the way you know things to be and what you were taught about faith.  You may realize that the operation of faith that you were taught in church probably does not correspond with the way things really happen on this planet.  Now we are told that the reason for this phenomena is that you have to learn to activate your faith or that you need to learn how to operate or use your faith.  How many of you have tithed your money to your local church with visions of great blessings only to continue giving and continue waiting for that blessing?  How many of you have prayed for something and it just didn't happen?  How many of you are still waiting for that great blessing from God to manifest itself in your life?  You think that if you keep confessing what you want and giving to your local church that somehow you will become rich monetarily. I should inform you that you are probably misinformed or deceived in regards to the operation of faith and therefore the Kingdom of God.  In no way am I implying that there is no blessing to giving or that confessions may have a place as we work with confidence.  What I am suggesting to you is that perhaps your perception of how faith works is inaccurate when compared with the teachings in the Bible.  Perhaps what you thought was the operation of faith is really a theory, philosophy, or wish.  In some cases I would dare say that what you have been taught about faith was to bleed you of your resources, such as money."  People are often very disappointed in God because certain expectations are not met. These individuals have experienced loss, the loss of loved ones or disappointment and failure. They have experienced tragedy, and now their notion of God's faithfulness is shaken and sometimes even destroyed.   So Just what are we to expect from God?
